AN ACT to modify the staggering of terms for members of the board of county commissioners of stanly county and the board of education of stanly county.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1.(a) Section 4(a) of S.L. 2013‑361 reads as rewritten:
"SECTION 4.(a) In 2014 and quadrennially
thereafter, under Members of the Board of County Commissioners of Stanly
County shall be elected using the districts set out in or as modified in
accordance with this act, there shall be elected to serve on the Board of
County Commissioners of Stanly County one member each from District 1, District
2, District 3, District 4, and one member at large to serve a four‑year
term. In 2016 and quadrennially thereafter, there shall be elected one member
from District 5 and one member at large to serve a four‑year term. act.
All of the elections shall be held at the time of the general
election."
SECTION 1.(b) To modify the current staggering of terms, members of the Board of County Commissioners of Stanly County shall be elected as follows:
(1) In 2024, one member from District 5 and one at‑large member shall be elected to serve a four‑year term.
(2) In 2026, one at‑large member shall be elected to serve a two‑year term.
(3) In 2026 and every four years thereafter, one member each from District 1, District 2, District 3, and District 4 shall be elected to serve a four‑year term.
(4) In 2028 and every four years thereafter, one member from District 5 and two at‑large members shall be elected to serve a four‑year term.
SECTION 2.(a) Section 5(c) of S.L. 2013‑361 reads as rewritten:
"SECTION 5.(c) In 2014 and quadrennially
thereafter, under Members of the Board of Education of Stanly County
shall be elected using the districts set out in or as modified in
accordance with this act, there shall be elected to serve on the Board of
Education of Stanly County one member from District 1 and one member at large
to serve a four‑year term. In 2016 and quadrennially thereafter, there
shall be elected one member each from District 2, District 3, District 4,
District 5, and one member at large to serve a four‑year term. act.
All of the elections shall be held at the time of the general
election."
SECTION 2.(b) To modify the current staggering of terms, members of the Board of Education of Stanly County shall be elected as follows:
(1) In 2024, one at‑large member shall be elected to serve a two‑year term.
(2) In 2024 and every four years thereafter, one member each from District 2, District 3, District 4, and District 5 shall be elected to serve a four‑year term.
(3) In 2026 and every four years thereafter, one member from District 1 and two at‑large members shall be elected to serve a four‑year term.
SECTION 3. This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to elections held on or after that date.
